Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine [CHM] is one of the most sophisticated herbal medicine systems in the world.  This method of treatment has always been considered pre-eminent amongst the various methods of healing within Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM].  Although partly based on folk medicine, TCM as a style is a highly sophisticated literate medicine.  This form of medicine treats and assesses each person as a unique individual (not based entirely on a disease or symptom).  This modality combines a detailed analysis of signs and symptoms with a unique system of pulse and tongue diagnosis to develop a detailed picture of the course and process of disease.  Healing is based on the restoration of harmony and balance within the body.

Chinese herbal medicine is practised extensively throughout clinics and hospitals in China alongside Western medicine.  After a thorough diagnosis each person is prescribed an individual formula (typically 10-15 ingredients) correlated to an individual’s pattern of internal disharmony.  Formulas are crafted together to act synergistically and every ingredient is designed to accomplish a part of the overall process of restoring balance.  Considerable research into many aspects of TCM has been conducted in China and the West, proving its efficacy and merit.
